December 7, 2007

Biamp Systems today announced that Smeed Communication Services has completed a third stage of audio systems design and integration at the Oregon State Capitol in Salem using Biamp AudiaFLEX® and Nexia® digital audio processing platforms. This project follows two earlier implementations in which Smeed provided a Biamp solution for hearing rooms, as well as portable systems for remote applications at the Capitol.

Ken Lewetag working with Smeed's Educational Systems Specialist, Rick Iverson, designed new systems for eight hearing rooms: six of standard-size, and two smaller rooms. Ken Lewetag is the Capitol's media technician/system administrator, Smeed equipped each of the six standard spaces with Biamp AudiaFLEX digital processing systems and between 10 and 20 active microphones. For the two smaller spaces, he used Biamp Nexia processing hardware and five microphones.

"The challenge in these rooms lies with the ability to present audio to the committee, present audio to the presenter or the witness, and then present audio to the audience," Lewetag explained. "The Biamp system gave us this versatility. They provide for as many microphone inputs as are required and allow for five audio outputs."

Biamp's AudiaFLEX and Nexia digital audio platforms integrate powerful hardware and intelligent software for advanced networking and processing. Both platforms provide integrators with a scalable, application-specific processing architecture for sound reinforcement, media presentation or conferencing systems. Ease of use, reliability and unmatched support make Biamp AudiaFLEX and Nexia the platforms of choice for progressive, successful integrators.

"We're often required to accommodate teleconferencing, videoconferencing and multimedia presentations, but the Biamp boxes are versatile and do a very good job of satisfying all these needs," added Lewetag. "Having used Biamp products on the previous systems, we were very satisfied with the controls, dependability and the ability we have to modify everything as needed."

The success of this implementation illustrates the commercial advantages enjoyed by contractors who can pair comprehensive, scalable system integration with versatile, ultra-reliable audio processing technologies.

"We build our systems to empower integrators. Smeed Communication Services' repeat business at the Oregon State Capitol reaffirms the effectiveness of this approach," said Ron Camden, VP of Sales – North America, Biamp Systems. "By providing integrators with high-performing, reliable tools that allow them to do their jobs more effectively, we hope to develop long lasting, mutually-beneficial relationships that advance all of our businesses and improve the state-of-the-art in audio system design."
