About Smeed Communication Services

Smeed Communication Services History Eugene Springfield Oregon

Our Company History

Eugene Oregon is the home of Smeed Communication Services,
founded by Glenn and Betty Smeed in 1946.

In the beginning, Smeed Communication Services specialized in rental sound systems for dances and social events. In the 1950s Smeed installed custom hi-fi and intercom systems in deluxe homes of the day. The installation of intercom and paging systems to lumber mills, businesses, and retail facilities was steady through the 1960s. In 1976 Smeed installed one of the first privately owned telephone systems in Eugene to a large law firm. In 1980 Glenn and Betty retired and sold the business to their two sons, Glenn Jr. and Paul, both of whom have worked in various positions for the company and have a good understanding of sound and communications systems and the value of a family-run business. Glenn Jr. and Paul are working managers with a desire to provide total communications packages that fully satisfy each customer's needs.
