Smeed Communication Services
Company HistoryEugene Oregon home of Smeed Communication Services,
founded by Glenn and Betty Smeed in 1946.
In 1946, Smeed Sound Service provided rental sound systems for dances and social events. In the 1950s Smeed installed custom Hi-Fi and Intercom systems in custom homes. Installation of Intercom and Paging systems grew to lumber mills, businesses, and retail facillities, and was steady through the 60's and 70's. In 1976 With the Breakup of the bell system, Smeed installed one of the first privately owned telephone systems in the Eugene to a large law firm.
1980 Glenn and Betty retire and sell their business to their two sons, Glenn Jr. and Paul, both working their way up by participating in all aspects of the company. Glenn and Paul have a firm understanding of Audio, Video, and Telecommunications systems.
The name "Smeed Sound Service" was also changed to "Smeed Communication Services" to reflect the broader range of products and services now available from Smeed.
